Documentary Wedding Photography – An Introduction

I’m a wedding photographer and I’m based near Stroud, Gloucestershire.

I cover weddings all over the UK, but most of my work centres on Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset.
I specialise in a very relaxed form of documentary wedding photography.
Some people call it reportage wedding photography, or photojournalistic wedding photography.
It’s all the same thing.

What sets documentary wedding photography apart from traditional wedding coverage?

Well, it starts with a completely different mindset.
And it stems from a belief that interesting pictures are found and not made.
That for photos to really work they have to be emotionally involving.
And you can’t fake emotion.

My work is a mix of candid, observational, unposed, beautiful, touching, and often humourous pictures which tell the story of a wedding day as it happens.
There are no manufactured moments, and nothing is set up or posed.
I’m absolutely convinced that the reality of a wedding day is always so much more interesting and enduring than any fantasy.
